If you want to have a successful blog, you simply MUST have great content. That means you need to find a way to present valuable and interesting information in a way that will encourage people to take note. You want them to be so curious that they come back for our next post. You want them to be sufficiently enamored with your insight that they link to it or otherwise pass it along.
You can do that in a million different ways. One of the best ways (if you can pull it off) is with a sense of humor.
Case in point: Kumiko at Kumiko's Cash Quest. She took several eminently reasonable and straight forward tips for successful blogging and framed them in a very clever way. Kudos to Kumiko who created a memorable post.
